A project has been taken up by Directorate of Prisons to expand and modernize the old and old Kushtia District Jail under various development projects with a view to solving the problem of accommodation of jail inmates. A detailed digital survey of the entire prison area has been designed. Kushtia District Jail Expansion and Modernization Project will increase the capacity of 1500 prisoners as per the checklist. In the existing land of this prison, any buildings can be kept for the preservation of history, historical buildings/structures and any buildings/structures must be demolished. The inspection team of the local public works department has sent a report to the directorate which will be completed in the future. The existing parade grounds will be modernized with a view to imparting additional and up-to-date training to officers/staff. A proposal for construction of prison cells has been sent to Kushtia Medical College Hospital for better treatment and safety of prisoners which will be implemented. A mini park will be constructed for family identification and mental development of children.
